Large Families

I am finding that there are some things that we do differently as our family size has grown. Gone are the days of buying trinkets at the zoo or extra items at events. They just get too costly and end up laying around anyways. Meal prep is different, shopping is different, even vacations.

I am going to write more in detail soon but first I wanted to know how large or small everyone's family make up is. What changes have you noticed as your family grew? At what point did adding new kids really make a big impact? If we are able to adopt little man we will be at 12, if we adopt newest kid we will be at 13, is there a big difference between 13 and 15?

  1. Our family is 7 what makes it even more challenging is I adopted 2 children, and my oldest has severe special needs wheelchair medical equipment and her sister is beyond overly active, and defiant. Both exposed to assortment of drugs prenataly. we live with my daughters family of 4. So finding housing, purchasing vehicle to accomodate all of us and the wheelchair is not fun.

  2. We have always done a lot of budgeting. I only had a per diem for one child out of all of them. We very rarely ate out. When we did, it was fast food and each person got $2 for the dollar menu. They had to learn to work together, like one bought the drink, another bought the nuggets to share etc, or they had to share a combo between them. And it was a treat which made it more special. We had reciprical zoo passes so when we traveled, we stopped at every zoo along the way that was part of it. We stopped in Birmingham, Montgomery, Nashville and even South Bend was on it. Electronics are bought by the owner once they get a job and show trust. Experiences over things. Etc.
