Step 1 - paint your snowman. If you look really close you will see that I did a very simple design. Black coal eyes with a tiny speck of white paint. Imperfect painted smiles and an orange nose. I took just a tiny bit of white and orange mixed together and ran it across the top and then did some random black lines. These are not necessary. For the cheeks I put my finger in some red paint and dabbed most of it off (it is easier to add then to remove) and dabbed it on the cheeks.
.
Supplies to complete your snowman are the fabric, wire and thread. All supplies (including the paint) were bought at Walmart. I really should own stock there.
I am a lazy sewer. If measuring is not required, I don't do it. I pinched the fabric to see where I needed to cut it. I actually liked this stripe fabric because the stripes gave me a cutting line.
You want it to be a snug fit.
I sewed it together as close as possible to the edge.
I end up with a sleeve that I turn right side out.
Pull it over your jar and it is snug so you can really see where the ridge is. This is where the wire will go.
I added a loop to my wire so I can hang my fellow. If you don't plan on hanging him then you don't need to do that step.
Wrap the wire around and twist the ends together, making it tight. The tightness in that ridge keeps it in place.
I made another loop with the other end.
THIS IS WAY TOO CUTE
ReplyDeleteYou should do one of those reproducible craft resource books for Sunday school teacher--25 crafts from baby food jars. There are already paper plate craft books and about a zillion others.
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting this! they are really super cute!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking of Santa next...

I have been collecting baby food jars from a friend (with a baby) knowing I would find SOMETHING. I love this!! I plan to try and let the kids make some too!! You did a great job with your tutorial - very easy!! Love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Blessings,
Janelle
Janelle, I am glad that you found a craft for those baby food jars! My fellows are rather cute.

what kind of paint did you use to paint inside the jars
ReplyDeleteI didn't paint the inside. I set a bunch of jars up and spray painted them with white paint on the outside. First I had to use Goo Gone to get rid of the label stickiness and wash them well to get rid of the residue. The spray paint covered the fine black print that some of the baby jars had on them.

I'm gonna try this with my girl scouts. Now i just need some baby food jars. :)
ReplyDeleteI love this idea and I am going to do this with my class. Instead of ornaments, though, we are going to put candy in them and give them to the teachers as Christmas gifts.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a neat idea. I can see the fellow filled with kisses. I am thinking of a new snowman ornament idea for this year....after finals.

You have a beautiful family. Thank you for sharing your talent.
ReplyDeleteHi there! I loved this so much that I featured it in my "100 Jolly Christmas Crafts & Decorations"! Have a great day! http://www.aspectacledowl.com/100-christmas-crafts-decorations/
ReplyDeleteThank you for this cute idea! I am going to fill mine with red & green M&Ms & give to the low income children I "adopted" for Christmas. What a cute stocking stuffer & little treasure jar after the candy is gone.
ReplyDeleteThese are very cute!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! Would love to do a Santa.
ReplyDeleteLOVE,LOVE,LOVE THE BABY FOOD JAR SNOW MEN. WHAT KIND OF PAINT DID YOU USE? I WANT TO MAKE SURE I BUY THE RIGHT KIND AT WAL-MART.
ReplyDeleteI used white spray paint and then used just regular acrylic paint for the face. Another possibility is to coat the inside with white paint and then paint the face with multi surface acrylic paint.
