Pictures Done
Tonight we got all the rest of the dance pictures and practices done. I can not post any of Anthony's pictures from Hip Hop because he does not like the costume. He didn't want me to post any of those pictures so I won't.
During this week the kids take pictures and then do a quick practice in their costumes. Larissa was practicing her solo and some girls from another class were watching. One girl said that her solo was boring. Her solo is classical ballet, Larissa's favorite dance style. Larissa heard the comment. She later told me that her eyes welled up but she didn't cry.
This really upset me. She was already nervous about doing a solo but also excited. This is something she wanted to tackle. It seems like our culture is turning away from respect and it isn't very pretty.
That's something I would talk to the studio about. I teach at a school and run a piano studio at home, and would *never* allow students to make comments like that. There would be amends! It's awful!!
ReplyDeleteI hope you can post Larissa's solo! I would love to see it, and I betcha it's EXCITING!
She looks great in her pictures- clearly happy and healthy with dance. I hope she always sticks with it. You hear me, Larissa? Those mean girls can put a sock in it! ;-)
Good for her for doing a solo! Our dance studio is a bit elite and only seniors get to do solos. During company competition many of those girls do solos though. But the recital is over 3 hours with each class performing one number and then the companies performing group numbers. Larissa is beautiful as always. Love the creativity in the photos.
ReplyDeleteAt the end of last years recital Larissa said she wanted to do a solo so this year I signed her up for a private class so she could. Classes are 30 minutes a week, she would love to do dance all day.
DeleteMy two oldest girls (who are 17 and 15 yrs old) have been dancing 14 and 13 years, respectively. They both said to tell Larissa that she is beautiful in her costume. That she will do amazing in her solo and that they wish they could come watch her and support her. They said to tell Larissa that the mean girls are just jealous and to smile and dance her heart out. Maybe one day our dancers can meet. We live in the big ATL. I am not sure how to post a pic on here or I would share their dance picture from this year. Maybe you can tell me of a way to share it with her.
ReplyDeleteYou can send it to my email, pritzen1@yahoo.com. My college roommate lives in ATL, we hope to visit sometime this summer.
DeleteWell, MY eyes welled up when I read this! My older daughter is not yet 3 years old but I already saw her being hurt by other children's remarks.. I do not let her make such comments and always talk to her about how the others might feel. Too bad other parents (and teachers) let this happen.
DeleteI am sure Larissa will do great. She is beautiful and I bet these girls are just jealous.
